Glorex Oral Rinse is a clear, colourless mouthwash demonstrating significant antiplaque and antimicrobial effects, ideal for maintaining oral hygiene and managing infections post dental procedures.
Antibacterial Spectrum:
- Broad-spectrum anti-infective
- Effective against:
- Gram-positive & Gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria
- Yeasts & dermatophyte fungi
- Lipophilic viruses
- Covers most oral pathogens
Mechanism of Action:
- Chlorhexidine binds strongly to skin, mucosa, and oral tissues due to its cationic (positively charged) nature
- This strong binding results in minimal systemic absorption, enhancing local effectiveness and safety
Indications:
- Treatment of halitosis, gingivitis, and periodontitis
- Preoperative rinse (1 min) to reduce oral microbial load before dental implant placement
- Post-surgical care following periodontal or implant procedures
- Presurgical prophylaxis in periodontal, implant, and extraction surgeries
- Temporary oral hygiene substitute when brushing is painful or not possible
Drug-Drug Interaction:
- Avoid skeletal muscle relaxants
- Co-administration with vitamin K antagonists (e.g., warfarin, acenocoumarol, fluindione) may increase coagulation tests (PT/INR) and risk of bleeding
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Pharmacokinetics:
- Negligible systemic absorption
- No systemic metabolism due to poor absorption through oral mucosa
Warnings:
May cause staining of oral surfaces such as teeth, tongue, and dental appliances
Side Effects:
- No systemic side effects due to negligible absorption
- Possible with chronic use:
- Taste alteration
- Numbness in mouth/tongue
- Oral or lingual pain
- Dry mouth (xerostomia)
- Tooth or tongue discolouration
Dosage and Administration:
- Presurgical Prophylaxis (periodontal/implant/extraction):
→ 10 mL of 0.2% solution, rinse for 30 seconds immediately before surgery - Oral Candidiasis:
→ Soak dentures in rinse for 15 minutes once or twice daily - Halitosis:
→ 10 mL rinse for 30 seconds, once or twice daily - COVID-19 Transmission Prophylaxis:
→ 10 mL rinse for 60 seconds prior to procedure
